Blue Star Families San Diego -- $30,000 Welcome 365
Program Description:
The Rancho Santa Fe Women’s Fund awarded Blue Star Families San Diego a $30,000 grant to support Welcome 365, a year-round initiative designed to help military and veteran families successfully transition into the San Diego community. The program reduces social isolation by creating opportunities for connection, increasing awareness of local resources, and promoting the well-being of military families through community events, wellness activities, and family engagement programs. Special emphasis was placed on supporting military children as they navigate the challenges of frequent relocations.
Results:
The grant enabled Blue Star Families San Diego to successfully implement Welcome 365 as planned while remaining within budget. During the grant period, the organization:
- Hosted 100 community events serving more than 15,000 military and veteran family members throughout San Diego County.
- Conducted nine Welcome Week events to connect newly relocated families with local resources and support networks.
- Engaged 500 military children and their families through Month of the Military Child celebrations.
- Expanded Coffee Connects, outdoor recreation, wellness programming, and other family-centered events that strengthened peer relationships and fostered a sense of belonging.
- Achieved outstanding participant outcomes, with 100% of surveyed participants reporting they felt more connected to their community after attending Welcome 365 programming.
The grant also strengthened partnerships with organizations including the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic, Starbucks Military Stores, TERI Campus of Life, and the USS Midway Museum, expanding access to welcoming venues and valuable community resources.
Future Plans:
Welcome 365 will remain a cornerstone program for Blue Star Families San Diego. The organization plans to expand year-round programming, including Welcome Week, Coffee Connects, family recreation events, wellness initiatives, and celebrations honoring military children and families.
To ensure long-term sustainability, Blue Star Families will continue diversifying funding through grants, corporate sponsorships, individual donations, and strategic community partnerships. Ongoing evaluation through participant surveys, attendance data, and community feedback will guide future program improvements and help expand the initiative’s reach.
