Classics 4 Kids -- $30,000 Equitable Access to Music Education to Underserved Students in San Diego County
Program Description:
The grant funded in-person orchestra concerts for K-8th grade students from the 107 Title 1 elementary schools within the RSFWF service area during the 2025-2026 season. Specific objectives included providing subsidized bus transportation and deeply subsidized tickets. To remove financial and logistical barriers for students from under-resourced schools, delivering bilingual, STEM integrated programing featuring the 26-member Classics Philharmonic Orchestra at the historic Balboa Theater reaching approximately 3,000 students.
Results:
Outcomes were measured through tickets and attendance records. YouTube analytics tracked views and geographic reach, and post-concert teacher surveys assessed student engagement, academic learning and some emotional growth, reaching the target of 90% positive feedback. 20 bus scholarship disbursements to the Title 1 schools confirmed that transportation barriers were successfully removed for under-resourced students. The program exceeded the goal of serving 3,000 students. 2,146 students attended in-person concerts, and 4,402 students were able to participate via the virtual concert program for a total of 6,548 people served.
Future Plans:
Classics 4 Kids is committed to the long-term sustainability and growth of educational content programming for students within the RSFWF Service Area and beyond. Looking ahead, they will continue to deliver three in-person educational orchestra concerts per season at accessible San Diego venues, maintaining their dedication to subsidized ticketing and free bus transportation to Title 1 schools. They will deepen relationships with school administrators and district partners to increase outreach San Diego County school year after year. taking proactive steps to secure long-term funding and reduce dependency on unstable public funding source.
