Program Description:

The Rancho Santa Fe Women’s Fund grant supported Friends of San Pasqual Academy’s Traditional High School Experience, a program that helps foster youth enjoy the same academic, extracurricular, and social opportunities as their peers. Through activities such as sports, homecoming, prom, holiday celebrations, birthday parties, field trips, and other school events, the program reduces the stigma of foster care while building confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging. 

Results:

The program was successfully delivered throughout the school year, giving foster teens meaningful opportunities to fully participate in school life. Students celebrated birthdays, participated in athletics, and attended social events that strengthened relationships and created lasting memories.

Success was measured through high participation rates and staff observations of increased confidence, trust, and stronger relationships with caring adults. The program remained on budget, and was implemented without significant challenges, supported by the organization’s more than 20 years of experience serving foster youth.

Strong partnerships with organizations such as the National Charity League, Teen Volunteers in Action, Rotary Clubs, The In-N-Out Burger Foundation, and many individual volunteers provided funding, donated supplies, and volunteer support. 

During the grant period, Friends of San Pasqual Academy was recognized as Non-Profit of the Year by Assemblymember Dr. Darshana Patel for its longstanding commitment to improving the lives of foster youth.

Future Plans:

Friends of San Pasqual Academy will continue to provide a Traditional High School Experience for every new class of students. Each school year begins with the signature Shop ‘til You Drop event, where students receive school supplies, clothing, hygiene products, and other essentials to help them start the year with confidence. Ongoing support from grants, donors, volunteers and community partners will help sustain the program.
